Orchestral Director, Shabria Ray
The ChamberWorks Youth Orchestra (CWYO) program exists as an extension to the rigorous chamber music training of the ChamberWorks Summer Music Institute. CWYO is a conductor-less, string orchestra that operates in the style of the acclaimed Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. The participants in the ensemble are responsible for contributing to the stylistic, interpretive choices of the music. This model encourages and fosters leadership growth, methods of communication, and teamwork.
Membership in the CWYO program, which is open to all advanced string students through an audition process, trains students to master ensemble playing at a conservatory level by exposing them to challenging masterpieces of the classical canon. CWYO members will be involved in sectional rehearsals led by eminent performers, guest-led rehearsals by esteemed musicians, and must as a collective devise and execute an outreach project. Throughout the season, the CWYO will perform three concerts.
